Those of us who love the ocean are just thrilled we finally have a World Oceans Day to give us cause to celebrate.

But why stop there! The oceans cover most of the world and are home to most of the life on this planet, how could anything to vast and wondrous ever be completely celebrated in one day - the answer: World Oceans Week !!

In todays fast paced world it's almost impossible to get everything done in only one day. World Oceans Week Canada urges communities to celebrate our oceans anytime in the month of June.
We will post your activities and events online.

Suggestions of World Oceans Day celebrations and activities

- shoreline clean up to remove toxic and harmful waste from ponds, streams, rivers, lakes, ocean
- water conservation projects
- reduction of your "carbon footprint"
- community celebration including
- art contest
- poetry contest
- short story contest
- movie screenings of ocean documentaries and guest speakers at community group meetings and
  schools
- document efforts and apply to become an OCEAN HERO

Communities can close World Oceans Week celebrations with a community event, including:
- an interactive oceans mural for the children to fill up with art creations
- games for the children to play
- face painting (oceans and sea life being ideal themes)
- exhibits from leading Nonprofit Organizations
- public speakers
- accept then forward applications for those earning an OCEAN HERO certificate
- collection of signatures on a letter to your Federal MP and Provincial MPP/MLA urging each to
make preservation of our water, waterways, habitat and marine life their main priority
